Head teacher's Messages
Dear Families,
Welcome to our first newsletter of the new school year! A very warm welcome to all our new families and new staff members joining the Pinner Wood community. We hope your time here will be happy and rewarding.
As this is the first newsletter of the term, we’ve put together a guide to some key information you’ll need for the year ahead. While many of you may already be familiar with much of it, please do take a moment to read through and share with your year group—there are a few important updates.
Stepping Up - Staffing News
New Teachers and Support Staff
We’re delighted to welcome the following staff to our team:
Miss Tamara Igidbashian – Year 2 Cedar Teacher
Mr Jacob Green – Year 3 Teacher
Mrs Roshni Devlia – Year 5 Daintree Teacher
Miss Hannah Biddle – Acorns Teacher
Miss Maddi Carr – Acorns Teaching Assistant
Ms Nadine Clarke – Year 4 Teaching Assistant
Mrs Mandy Trewick - Welfare/Attendance
Mrs Tracey Hart - Pabulum Chef Manager
New Roles
We are also excited to announce that Mrs Sophie Campbell will be taking up this post as our new Pastoral Mentor. In this role, she will be supporting children with any challenges they may face, working closely with teachers to identify pupils who might benefit from a little extra help at this time. Please note this will be a slightly different role to the one Mrs Bennett had.
Value of the Half Term
This term, our focus is on “Step Up.”
Through assemblies and Monday morning class meetings, we are exploring how we can “step up” at Pinner Wood and celebrating those in our community who demonstrate this value.
This week’s assembly highlighted the incredible Lionesses, whose determination and teamwork led them to victory in the European Championships. Together, we discussed what we can learn from their example and how we can apply it to our own lives at school.
We have also launched our ‘Wonderful walking’ campaign to encourage walking and not running down corridors in school. This is particularly for our younger friends at lunchtimes.

School Notices and Expectations - What to do guide
Communication from the school | We really encourage our families to read the weekly updates and half term newsletters. To avoid sending a large number of emails, we will not always send out reminder emails so please make a note of the key dates or events link to your child's year group or class. A newsletter is posted at the start of every half term on our website - https://www.pinnerwood.harrow.sch.uk/page/half-termly-newsletters/152049 Every Friday we post a weekly update. This includes a helpful list of things to remember. Please take a look: https://www.pinnerwood.harrow.sch.uk/page/friday-updates/153012 |
Uniform | School shoes must be worn on non-PE days – no trainers, please. PE kit should be worn on PE days with plain trainers. Pupils will also need a house-colour t-shirt and sweatshirt. Teachers will be checking uniform throughout September. If there are any issues, please get in touch with us. If your child has a club on a school uniform day, please bring PE kit to change into. |
Long Hair | Long hair must be tied back for school. Hair accessories should be in school colours: green, black, or white. |
Jewellery | Jewellery is not part of school uniform. However, we understand some children may wear a small item of religious significance—please inform your class teacher if this applies.
|
Lost Property | Lost property is located in the Year 5/6 playground in the two boxes outside Fir Class.
School Responsibility: |
KS2 Stationery | Pupils in Years 3–6 are encouraged to bring their own stationery, which should include:
Please ensure all items are named. Extra or unnecessary items should not be brought in, as these can be distracting in class. |
Daily Routines | Start of the Day
End of the Day
Walking Home
|
Breaktime snacks | Early Years and KS1 children are provided with a daily fruit or vegetable snack. KS2 children may bring a snack from home, but it must be fruit or vegetables only. |
Bikes and Scooters | We actively encourage pupils to walk, cycle, or scoot to school.
|
Smart Phones on Hold | We have paused the use of smart phones and smart watches for pupils in Years 5 and 6. Children may bring a basic mobile phone (not a smart phone), which will be kept in a locked box in the classroom during the school day and returned at home time. If a smart phone is brought into school, it will be taken and returned directly to a parent. This initiative is part of a wider project with other schools, aiming to prolong childhood and reduce unnecessary pressures. Air tags are not permitted in school, due to safety concerns. They can be picked up and tracked by others. |
Wonderful Walking Zone | We are working on walking around the building (Some children have been using the corridors as a racetrack when returning from lunch.) We are promoting ‘wonderful walking’ around the building. Please help by reminding children at home. |
Birthdays at Pinner Wood | We love celebrating birthdays with our “Birthday Bunch” day at the end of each term, when children with birthdays that term can come to school in non-uniform. Please note:
|
Reporting Absence | If your child is absent, you must report it by 8:30am via:
Absences not reported by 9:00am will be marked as unauthorised, which could lead to a fine. At the end of each week, any unaccounted marks will also be recorded as unauthorised. |
Lunches | If your child is bringing a packed lunch, please ensure it follows our Healthy Lunch expectations. 🚫 We are a nut-free school. The new menu for this year is updated below and on the school website. |
Year group communication | Every Friday the year group will post a newsletter on Seesaw with everything you need to know for the week ahead. Please make sure you can access this. |
Home learning | Home learning is posted weekly on Seesaw (Monday–Monday). Reading books and records are sent home and should be returned to school daily. |
Contacting the school | Your child’s class teacher is the first point of contact. They are available at the end of the school day, once all children have been dismissed.
Messages can be sent via Seesaw. Teachers will respond during the day, but not during teaching time.
You can also send messages via office@pinnerwood.co.uk, and they will be passed on to the relevant member of staff. Please note: staff will not contact parents or respond using personal email accounts. If your query is not resolved, the next point of contact is the Key Stage Leader, who oversees the running of the phase. If the matter is still unresolved, you can contact the Senior Leadership Team via the office. They aim to respond within 5 working days. Senior staff are also often available on the playground in the mornings for quick queries. Our full communication policies are available here: |
Volunteering at Pinner Wood | We have a wonderful group of families and people in our local community who support with volunteering at Pinner Wood, including helping with reading, phonics, maths and within the Acorns provision. We are still looking for people to support with these areas, alongside volunteering within our school library. If you are able to volunteer and support for one after a week, please email the office for the attention of Mrs Kearney. |
Music | Music lessons will begin next week: Monday - drums Tuesday and Wednesday - keyboard Wednesday - tabla and violin Thursday - guitar |
Clubs | Teacher led and external clubs will not run in the first or last week of each full term, on Inset days or occasional staff training days. These will be communicated to you in the Friday update. Teacher led clubs will not run on Parents Evening (Wednesday 22nd and Thursday 23rd October). External clubs will continue on these days. Please let the school office know if your child no longer wants to attend a teacher led club to allow the space to be given to another child. Please note, there are spaces available in the external clubs below and please continue to check teacher led clubs on Arbor as there may be spaces. |

Congratulations to Our Outstanding Young Achievers!
We are delighted to celebrate the remarkable achievements of three of our children at Pinner Wood School who have won an art competition to design the flyer for the Pinner Rotary Village Fair:
Lola Kraft (Year 6) – Winner
Amara Chohan (Year 2) – Runner Up 1
Amber Hirani (Year 6) – Runner Up 2
These talented children have been invited to receive their congratulations and prizes from the Mayor of Harrow at this year’s Pinner Rotary event, taking place on Saturday at 11.30am - 5pm. This is a wonderful recognition of their creativity and hard work.
This year, we were thrilled to receive a record number of entries, showcasing an impressive array of talent and effort from our children. So impressive, in fact, that approximately 20 of the best entries will be displayed in a dedicated tent at the event. If you are attending, please do take the time to visit the tent and admire the incredible work from our school community.
We are incredibly proud of Lola, Amara, Amber, and all the children who participated. Their achievements truly embody our vision of growing as we learn and learning as we grow. If you would like to support these children as they receive their award, the presentation will be at 4pm by the control tent.
Well done to all!
Mr O'Brien, our wonderful PE lead, is continuing to run his girls football sessions weekly at Whitmore School from 4.30 - 5.30 pm every Friday. Please see the information on the poster to sign up or email Mr O'Brien at jamie_ob10@outlook.com.
