Pupil Voice

At Pinner Wood, everyone's voice is important. We want our children to be actively involved in making a difference to their school.

 

Our aims are to:

 

  • Meet the needs of our pupils
  • Boost children’s confidence
  • Encourage learning skills such as communication, assertiveness and advocacy
  • Build positive relationships between all members of the school community
  • Help pupils feel recognised and valued
  • Encourage active citizenship- making a difference to their community and world
  • Be able to respond to pupils needs
  • Improve the achievement of pupils
  • Recognise pupils as major stakeholders and enable them to take a more active part in running their communities.

 

We do this through:

All children in year 6 having a role of responsibility (This list is not exhaustive.)

Year 6 Roles

Leadership Role Tasks Selection Process  
Head Squad
  • Lead the celebration assemblies
  • Attend School Council meetings
  • Conduct tours for new families (alongside the Headteachers)
  • Feedback to stake holders in the school including Governors and leaders.

Prefects
  • Role model and uphold the School Values across the school
  • Lead School Tours (alongside the Head teacher)
  • Support younger peers
  • Lead homework and other clubs.

  • Role Model and uphold the values
  • Represent a value in the school
  • Work with leaders to plan events in their values focus term
  • Collect house points on their value and present in assembly.

Librarians
  • Work with our adult librarian to organise and manage the library
  • Run lunchtime librarian sessions
  • Choose books to be recommended to others.

  • Attend fortnightly School Council meetings
  • Lead oracy circle
  • Present findings to the school
  • Collect views from others pupils in school
  • Meet with Governors
  • Present views e.g. to MP, councillors, parents.

  • Supporting at lunchtime to lead games and include other children

  • Being role models in Key Stage 1 and upholding the PW values
  • Working with their class teachers to support their Key Stage 1
